If you haven't played EVE or haven't played EVE in quite a while everyone should
read this.
That's a general layout of what EVE is about. It's written by GoonFleet which is the poster child of a corporation starting late in EVE and still becoming fairly powerful in a short amount of time.
GoonFleet was originally a collection of guys in frigates just zerging into other alliances but now they are a fairly large fighting force. So is it possible to start in EVE now and have fun? Yes absolutely.
So anyways if you are interested in EVE and want to start, you gotta of course make a character. This is a huge deal. Unlike other games you actually have to make your character correctly or you will be forever gimp (not gimp but you'll learn key skills pretty fucking slow and you'll hate yourself).
Best choice nowadays? Caldari Achura Military->Monks. They have high perception and intelligence, these are key skills. I can not stress how important these two are. Perception is the main stat for your ship and weapon skills, Intelligence is the main stat for engineering, electronics, mechanic, shields, ect.. basically keeping your ship alive and other support skills which are vital.
The other stats? Willpower is basically secondary for most everything, so you want it somewhat high but it's not a primary skill really.. Memory is mostly for industrial skills and drones, but there aren't a -ton- of drone skills. Charisma is mostly for Leadership (again not a TON of skills) and Social (can be completely skipped unless you really like mission running which is boring..).
Here is a Guide for character creation.
The races.. doesn't really matter which race you start out as, a Minmatar character has no penalty to flying an Amarr ship, you can cross train anything and you don't really start out with a ton of skills so it only takes a little longer to train for a new race. It is best early on to specialize with 1 type of weapon and 1 races ships and branch out later on, there's always something to train in EVE for sure.
Anyways ingame I am Jim Raynor, I've been playing EVE since 6/2003. We have Bone, L-C, Radek and some others on board right now if anyone else is interested in joining us let me know.
It could be a lot of fun. :icon_albino:
