General Game Info and Leveling Tips
(Info from final week of beta)
General Leveling Tips (4/19):
-FYI - Grey quests still give xp, you just wont get xp from killing the mobs (but they dont attack you either! Mobs 5 levels or lower will not attack).
- 1-80 shouldnt take to long even if you dont know what your doing. Probably 3/4 or so of the time it takes to get 1-70 in WoW it looks like. I got to 80 in 3 days ingame time in beta, they may cut XP in half for release (not confirmed yet). This was also my first time through and I spent countless hours trying to figure out where to go.
General Info/Tips:
- Press U to climb
- Tokens = Powersession XP bonuses, that reset once per day (or are supposed to, atm they reset whenever you relog/zone in and out of an instance). If you have tokens, and you kill an NPC equal or higher level (and not a minion), you get an xp bonus. For groups, it works the same way, except that all the members of the group that would've gotten the bonus if they killed the NPC solo, will also get the bonus if the group kills it. But only one of them will actually lose a token.
- You do have a recall, 5 min cooldown.
- Mobs leash a bit quicker than WoW, but not to much. Bosses tend to leash quicker than normal mobs if your trying to kite them.
- Health potions are all over the place, nothing special so use them (and they are OP)
- The UI is shit, but player mods will be in eventually.
- "Nighttime" is "offline". You can still talk to people in chat, but its your own instance not connected to the servers. This is available for the first 20 levels while doing your awakening quests. You can zone back and forth between daytime and nighttime by talking to your trainer (daytime has all the regular quests). There are a few zones/special instances as you level that are "offline" as well (Border Kingdoms, some quests in Noble District etc).
- Your feat trees get opened up at certain levels later on. You can only get the feats that require 25 points at level 40, 30 at level 50 and so on i guess (this is when i started putting feats in the normal section as opposed to just my dmg tree).
- This game doesnt seem to be as user friendly as past MMO's in terms of telling you what to do to progress, it's kind of left up in the air for you to figure out with very little clues. I have a feeling many players will get frustrated early on (near level 30) if they don't know what they are doing (as I have). The major problems are that skills are not explained very well, neither are feats. The quests are not linear, they don't generally lead somewhere like in WoW. It kind of feels like someone plopped down a quest create at the hubs and tossed a random one here and there out in the world. There is no, "you've done all you can here" quest that sends you with specific directions to a new area (which is annoying because in AoC so far leveling zones are not connected, the level 20-30 Stygian zone borders with the PvP zones?). I imagine this will change by release, but we'll see.
- PvP is NOT balanced early on. When certain classes get skills lower level they nearly 1 shot people.
Rough Leveling Guides:
This is my vague version of leveling, I missed a few things but its an overview. In the post below kane has his version from his last character. Below that is Mysh's version of Tortage, 1-20. Read all three =p
1-20: Get to 5 and do your awakening 1. Zone out, and do random daytime quests until around 15. Go do your last 3 awakening quests (should get you to 19 or 20). Don't stay in Tortage after you Awakening is done, go port to your level 20 zone. PvP will be harsh I imagine day 1 in the daytime Tortage btw ^^
20-39: Quests atm in this are lacking, so this will change probably but: 19-25 do quests in your race's 20-30 zone. At 25 goto Wildlands of Zalata (or another races zone, take boat to Old Tarantia, then boat to whereever) and do quests till 29 or 30. Go back to your old zone and do quests till your out. Once your out of quests there go back to wild lands or wherever u were prior and get to 39 or 40. Atm 30-40 is slow as fuck because of not enough quests.
40-51: You have 2 zones to level in, Noble District in Tarantia (level 42-43 mobs) and Field of the Dead (40-50). Not sure atm what the best thing to do is, there so far away that its a hassle to go between them tbh. Maybe keep your bind in Wild lands. Goto Field of dead then level to 41 or so, goto Noble Disctric and finish the quests off there (should get you to 45 ish). Go back to Field of the Dead and finish all quests. That will get you to 50-51.
51-60: Once you finish all quests in field of the dead, make your you bind to the town there then go back and get your awakening quest (the level 50 one). Recall back and goto the Eiglophian mountains (east of main town in Field of Dead). Just follow the quests there and you'll get to around 59. I imagine in release you'll be able to get to 60 but I ran out of quests at 59 and had to grind for awhile. Get to 60, go back and get your awakening 60.
61-70: Awakening sends you to Thunder River (Wilds lands of zalata (outcast camp has a portal to poltain)->poltain (all the way north)->thunder river). My suggestion is to do quests there till 63-64, finishing all of the quests on the side of the river you port in. Atm quests on the other side of the river are broke/not complete and theres not many of them. Goto Atzel's approach (Field of Dead->Lashe-something plains (NW Corner of map to Atzels)->Atzel's Approach) at 63-65 ish your choice. Depending on when you go some initial quests might be grey, do them anyway. Get to 70 then go get your next awakening.
70-80: Only 1 zone for 70-80, Khessheta (Kemi->Khom Province (go S, follow road that goes to zone line)->Purple Lotus Swamps (SW Corner of zone)->Khesseta. Atm there are only enough quests to get to around 77. This should change because the entire NE corner of the map has 0 quests and there all 78-80 mobs.
-Btw I wouldnt go back and forth for your awakening quests, just do them as you level. In other words, turn in 50 quest get 60 quest at 60, turn in 60 quest at 70 etc when your switching zones unless you want to run around the world.

20-29 Conalls. With group quests more like 30-32. If you don't get to 30 in Conalls then run around OT/Khemi/Khosheph turning in(and picking up) bread crumb quests and crap and do one or two quests in Khoseph if needed.
Misery also did 20-30 in Khoseph so I guess that zone is the same as Conalls, seems WL might not be able to do this though.
Do lvl 30 Awakening.
30-38
Go to Wild Lands. Spam click every npc that isn't a generic vendor or guard in Tesso. Do every single quest, around 34 do Border Kingdoms then finish whatever else in WL to 35ish. Pick up and do all the quests for the Sewers in OT. Go back to WL. Do the last handful of quests from outcast camp and the dude on the hill by the wounded child. SotBS quests are worth close to two levels as well.
Another thing is in the 30s you'll get more breadcrumb quests from npcs near the docks in OT, khemi, tesso, and the mule in conal's that send you to the 3 resource zones. They all give like 10k xp and have multiple steps, some chain to new quests. I don't remember it being important to turn them in till after 40 but make sure you do grab them.
38-44
Noble District(including arena)
44-49
FoTD. FoTD will get you to like 55 but I'm going to try to do all the dungeon quests for the zone in Noble District and maybe the one in FoTD as well this time before finishing FoTD.
49-50
Noble District(repeatable quests in the Mansion, mobs scale to your lvl). If you're already 50 Id do all the arena quests you can including the elite ones with one or two ppl then go do your Awakening quest in Eglophian mountains, do any quests available in the lower half of the zone while you're there.
50-52 Eglophian
At this point I'm like 2-3 levels behind where my BS was when I did this zone just from some changes on quest xp. I have a ton of quests I can do even though they're all red but I'm gonna finish the arena quests that bugged out for Mysh and I earlier which will get us atleast another level. Being able to do the instance in Noble District and FoTD will be more than enough to sort my level difference out to do Eglophian Mountains properly.
Okay so this is where leveling changed compaired to my BS. To be clear the problems are because Eglophian Mountains and Thunder River are not in any way complete zones. I think both zones combined have less quests than FoTD does.
I'm not going to specifically list levels and zones from 52-60 because it isn't practical anymore. Mysh and I have been stuck between grinding and doing red/orange quests mostly. We did 52-56ish between grinding, doing the cistern/main system in ND(really good xp from 50-55ish), and the Elgophian Mountain quests. Elgophian Mtns quests were almost all red/orange when we did them. After this we did maybe another lvl in the ND dungeon. 57-60 has been almost all grinding, mobs start at lvl 60 in Thunder River. We've done maybe 6 quests there, all red, and I know the other quest hub for the zone has mobs starting at around lvl 66.
This is compaired to my BS leveling w/Misery which went something like:
38-45ish: in ND
45-56ish: in FotDI remember almost all quests being grey/green, with a few yellow, compaired to almost all orange/red)
56ish-64ish in Elogphian(same quest con levels as FoTD)
64-68 in: Thunder River - most quests green, some yellow
Id guess around 5 levels in that 30 level range came from the arena quests and us doing all the ND dungeon quests when all the mobs were grey. No grinding at all ever, and a large majority of quests having mobs being low enough lvl to not aggro on us unless we attacked.
It still isn't that bad though. Grinding is as fast if not faster than questing is at this level though it is boring. Being able to do the dungeons in ND/FoTD in the 50s during final would solve the questing stump I'm at, but like I said Elgophian/Thunder River are far from complete zones as well. I don't know why this is, because Aztels and Khesseta are fine and they are higher level zones.

How to "Tortage"
How to „Tortage“ LvL 1-20/21
This is a guide for the final that should make it a bit easier for you guys to get through the first 20/21 LvLs in Tortage quickly. Note: Since I know that White Sands Isle is a main pk spot and a lag hell for most ppl I left these quests out for now (I have added where to pick all 14 of them up, but left leave it to the ppl to do them or not. I think it might be good to do some of them real quick before the “Final Battle” at around lvl 19 to gain an easy extra lvl of exp.). Also the LvLs I post here are what I reached doing this order with my PoM, if youre below them just killa few mobs inbetween for some exp.

At lvl 18 you have multiple options now:
1. Go back to Nighttime, kill all mobs in the dungeons youre send to and do your “Last Battle” at 19 and leave Tortage
2. Go back to Nighttime, stop before “Last battle” and go back to daytime and do some of the 14 White Sand Isle quests
3. Do some or all of the 14 White Sand Isle quests and after go back to Nighttime and finish it and leave Tortage around 21
Heres some hints for White Sands Isle quests:
- the Flesh Eating Plant is at the bottom of a house with Redhands in it
- the Feathers are on top of a mountain, you find a climb spot near the “Pools of Black Blood”, kinda on the left before you go down the stairs to the ghouls on the right
- the crocodile skins can be only found on the crocs at the higher lvl beach where also the bottles are
- The girl youre supposed to find hints of, the hints are in a hut on wodden feet in the highest lvl Pict camp, the girl herself is in the back of the cave where you do “Pools of Black Blood”, stay away from escorting her, it was horridly bugged in beta
- The mausoleum also was bugged in beta, works now though, do the three quests inside theyre super easy
I hope with this runthrough you can do Tortage up to lvl 20/21 in around ten hours of playtime, which is already counting multiple pk deathes etc. If you have stuff to add, questions or anything else, respond here.

It's going to be a bit different for certain classes, for example the assasin archtype/mage archtype awakening quests are really different. The ranger/assasin/barb get a lot less xp in nightime. just an fyi.

To continue from this I found my 20-30 questing to be pretty effective.
I found Kopshef province to be a great, fairly low-populated (by comparison to Wild Lands of Zelata) place to level. I got levels 21-30 in Kopshef no problem questing, but I am having trouble finding much to do in the 31-34 range.
I think a solid plan would be;
Tortage to 20.
Kopshef to 30.
Then go to Wild Lands and group with 1-2 other guildies and just go grind shit like mad in the Border Ranges. Does anyone know if Border Ranges is personally instanced or if its just a server-wide dungeon? Does anyone know any better place you can do quests quickly in the lower half of the 30s?
Keep in mind that limitless stacking of potions wont be in game at release.

Nice guide Mysh- you put alot of effort into it.
I just run around and click on every ! on the map, and go talk to every X on the map. I really prefer WoW's quick quest interface as I don't find npc dialogue engaging in the least. This is a game where I want to interact with players, not a throwback single player game.
I just ran through Tortage again with my son's ranger. 1-18 is easily done with town, destiny and Auch Ruin quests. I like to save every White Sand Island quest till 17/18 and go do them at once. Every mob you kill ends up dropping something quest related, and less people will mess with you. Make a big run around the tip and back up the other side to the Black Ones then port back to town and do the final destiny quest.

i struggled 10-20, i couldnt take down 2 mobs at once...alot of times, i would wait for someone else to pull, and gank the other add they had, or try to kill 1 of the mobs b4 i died, then run back and kill the other solo...it was rough.
now that im 21, my character is starting to come into his own, but i find an Assassin type class can still 2-3 shot me, they hit for well over 100, while i swing for a pittifull 30-50. ug,
also, does SiN have enemies that i don't know about? i had some guy grief me, and while i was waiting for the release button to show up he says something like "first blood"...evil bad guys > SiN
he must of known SiN from another game, he continually camped me non stop. i finally just left the whole white sands isle and did something else.
